Connecting to ShadowLands
Firstly the reason we use UO Gateway is because its very easy to set
up, secondly it also removes the encryption from a UO client. Our shard
doesn't allow client to connect should the encryption still be there.
However, we have had some feedback that people cannot connect to the
shard using this method. So if UOG doesn't work, what then you ask?
Using UO Gateway is not the only way to connect to our shard. Simply
follow these simple instructions and you should be fine.
- To remove the encryption from the client we are going to have to
download a neat little program that does this for us. The program
is UORICE, this tiny thing runs itself in dos and performs everything
we need automatically. A link to download this program
can be found in the downloads section of this website along with other
useful items.
- Once you have UORICE on your computer and unzipped it... run it.
You will as you may have guessed need UO installed and fully patched
up
(version 4.0.1a is the current version we best support). When UORICE
has completed, something that should take a few seconds, it will display
a screen providing information on what it has been getting up to. What
it should have done, if you haven't worked it out yet, is make copy's
of your main client files and save them to the same directory. It will
modify the client copy's it makes so that they no longer have encryption.
If you have both a 2d client and a 3d client it will attempt to make
un encrypted copy's of both.
- Assuming that UORICE has performed its tasks correctly you should
have 1 or more un encrypted clients hanging about in your UO directory
(Where all your UO files have been installed to). The files it creates
should be named clearly with "No_Crypt_Client", or something
along those lines. So, this will become the client you use from now
on to connect to "ShadowLands". But at the moment you will
not be able to connect to "ShadowLands" because the "login.cfg".
This file is a very important file indeed. You wont be able to connect
to anything without this little thing. I will explain how we need to
change it however to connect to shadowlands in the next set up step.
- Now, we can go about changing the login file in two different ways.
Firstly, and personally i think this is safest, you can download the
entire file already made up for you. You can along with other files
like i said earlier in the text download it from our downloads page.
Download this file into your UO directory and over write the existing
file.
The second way to do it that I suggest only to attempt if you know what your
doing and/or you are finding it hard to download the login.cfg from our site.
To make the login.cfg work for you without downloading, open the file in
for instance note pad or something like it. Then delete all the text in the
file and replace it with:
;Loginservers for ShadowLands: Ultima Online
;Do not edit this file or you will be unable to connect! Always save a backup.
LoginServer=shadowlands.nbkservers.com,2593 |
Once you have replaced the text with the above, save the file... DO NOT RENAME
IT!
Make sure the file remains in the same place that you got it from, as i said
above messing about with this file if you don't know what your doing can
result in not being able to play the game. Saying that however, its very
easy to
make a new one.
That's it! If you have followed the text correctly and not to
much is damaged with your UO then you should be perfectly set up to connect
to our shard. You will of course have to make yourself an account password
and username using our account creation page here. Remember
only your uncrypted client will work with our shard, so make it available
to yourself easily.
