Welcome to ShadowLands.

ShadowLands is an upcoming Ultima Online free shard using the RunUO server emulator.
We are currently developing the shard. Adding custom items, ores, houses. We're also in the process of developing a large roleplay scenario.

ShadowLands requires a fully patched client, and the use of UOGateway or UORice to remove client encryption.

ShadowLands will be down for the forseeable future. Our UOG account has been banned due to abuse I have apparantly committed. Various other things pushing me to end development on this shard.

Well, first update in a while. I've modified the way looting and resurrecting works. A few points:

  • Only the killer may loot another player, and may take one item only.
    If no item is taken by the killer within a certain amount of time, anybody may take an item.
  • When you resurrect, your items are transported back to you and your body is removed.

The reason for this is simple... Too much res killing and the non-pvp players lose out too much when they die. This way, a determined PK can still get all the items/bad karma/fame he wants, but he just has to try a little harder. This new system also discourages ganking, as only the killer may take an item. In the future, i will alter this so only the person who did most damage may take an item.

15 Apr '04 Magery/Necromancy no longer requires reagents if your skill is 80+.
14 Apr '04 New auto AFK Macro checker. Staff will no longer need to check for afk macroing, if this semi-intelligent script determines that you may be afk macroing, it will prompt you to click a button. While this window is open, each time you would normally gain in a skill you will decrease by that amount instead. No Jailing, No Banning. No worry about going to the toilet or having your tea, leave it afk as long as you dare!. You can only lose as much as you would gain.

12 Mar '04 Script Updates:
  • You now require a good amount of dexterity to ride mounts, however you receive good bonuses in combat if you are riding.
  • Polearms are very effective against mounted attackers. They can reduce the damage dealt to you substantially.
  • Grouped Defence. AKA "Safety in Numbers". This new feature will allow a party of players or creatures to gain a defence bonus. This is calculated using the number of partied or like guilded players, or in the case of NPCs the amount attacking a single opponant.

New Statics Patch - includes additional area in Teleplaza and a new PvP Arena. This is a 5mb download, you need to do this only once but massively reduces latency on the server in these areas.
UOG will download this patch automatically. UORice users must obtain the latest patch from the downloads page.

The first supported patch for UORice users is available on the downloads page.

Added a few reward items, these will be the start of a large reward system.
Added TollMoongates - you must pay a toll to use (can be any item or quantity).

Custom resources added:
Coal, Tin, Steel, Silver, Titanium, Bloodrock, Platinum, Cobalt, Moonstone, Hoarfrost, Pheonix. Each have independant strengths and weaknesses and some have unique effects when used.

22 Sep '03 Server updated to RunUO Beta 35.
19 Sep '03 Thanks to Skywalker3000 for reporting a rather embarrassing "Free Reagent" problem.
16 Sep '03 I have improved the core code behind the website. It is now much more stable and if the shard goes down, will now work as intended (Introduced a timeout on connecting to the server).
05 Sep '03 Newcomers to the shard are now given increases to their characters base skills, for details see the features page here.

I have parsed and removed any accounts that have not been activated. (This will be a regular thing, also for unused accounts - I have written a script to do it for me.) Grace Periods:
7 days before an inactivated account can be removed.
6 months before an unused account can be removed.
These can be overridden.. so if for example you are going on holiday for a year. Please inform me and i'll tag your account.
